Giggling at the Fatwa

Let's face it, American popular culture can be cruel. Ever since Lenny Bruce our best comics and humorists have recognized very few bounderies for their satire and derision. Richard Pryor opened up Race and a long list of comics followed his lead all the way up to Dave Chappelle. Carlin and other 70s era comics jumped head first into Politics and a generation later Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, and Dennis Miller regularly display political humor so detailed and knowledgable that it blurs the line between jokes and news. Woody Allen and others pioneered psychological humor that gave rise to the "confessional" comedy of Margret Cho and Julia Sweeney.

American humor is a world without rules, or more precisely with only one rule: Be Funny. Outside of the standup comics, late night imports of Monty Python's Flying Circus and the original SNL made the comic sketch a barometer of our times. The Simpsons and South Park proved that a cartoon could be a kind of high-density humor, elaborate and silly and brilliant all at once and at a speed most people could only appreciate through multiple viewings.

I remember laughing at Monty Python and the original SNL as a kid. Steve Martin was the first true standup comic I fell in love with (remember the little ditty "Grandpa bought a rubber"?). Looking back over the course of my life as a comedy fan, I see a trail of once sacred topics reduced to sketches and punch lines: the presidential election as a choice between two alien siblings who would enslave the human race ("Don't blame me. I voted for Kodos."); Jesus as a small town talk-show host; Satan as the gay lover of Saddam Hussein; a blind racist who doesn't know he's black; nuns line dancing during an Inquisition song; and of course the crucifix scene from Life of Brian.

One particular topic has escaped the attention of all these comics: Islam. Sure bin Laden and Hussein have been mocked on SNL and South Park but Islam has never faced anything compared to the mockery and silliness and satire directed at Christianity and Judaism. With good reason. A generation ago Islam in American was the religion of a small number of immigrants and a tiny number of converts. Now however it is the fastest growing religion in America and the world. We are frequently reminded by media types, politicians of both parties, prominent figures in other religions, academics, authors, and celebrities that Islam is part of the American mosaic.

Islam in America is wider, deeper and more diverse than ever in its history, and Muslims are poised to bring their faith, politics and culture into the mainstream of national life ... Mosques [are] the platform for full participation in American life ... Muslims believe that by involvement with the larger society, they can do service to America. ... Look for new voices in schools, workplaces and voting booths. ... Increasingly, they are going to be claiming a place in the public square.

Well, the public square, the mainstream, the larger society includes the fast paced, quick-witted, irony-soaked relm of American humor. The thin-skinned should enter at their own risk.

Questions: Can American muslims tolerate being subjected to parody and laughter? Will they laugh along in the spirit of good humor or will they cry and whine and bitch and moan? Can foreign muslims let Americans laugh without issuing death threats? Can American comics get past their inhibitions and see muslims as just one more target for jokes? Will an American comic have the balls to dress up like a Sheikh or an Imam and prance around like the Church Lady or James Woods as the perverted priest in Scary Movie 2? Will there ever be a muslim who treats Islam like Woody Allen treated Judaism in his early films? Or as Denis Leary riduculed Catholics? Will there ever be an Arab comic who mock his heritage as mercilessly as John Cleese mocked the British?

We'll see.

"Have Faith in the Power of Freedom"

Giuliani’s speech was fantastic. If the next three days have three more speeches like that then Kerry is in serious trouble. Good humored, anecdotal, folksy and self-deprecating but also visionary and abstract. Here's an important passage.

The attack on the Israeli team at the Munich Olympics was in 1972. ... The three surviving terrorists were arrested and then within just three months the terrorists who slaughtered the Israeli athletes were released by the German government. Set free. ...

In 1985, terrorists attacked the Achille Lauro and they murdered an American citizen who was in a wheelchair, Leon Klinghoffer. ... Some of those terrorist were released and some of the remaining terrorists, they were allowed to escape by the Italian government because of fear of reprisals from the terrorists. ...

President Bush decided that we could no longer just be on defense against global terrorism we must also be on offense. ... He dedicated America under his leadership to destroying global terrorism.

Wow! Good job Rudy. See you in 2008.

Rant Wraith Prediction: Bush Wins

Rant Wraith is non-partisan. I'm a single issue voter who views the War Against Jihad as the number one priority and the candidate who can convince me that he is the best on this issue wins my vote. But as a former campaign staffer and ex-political science grad student I am fascinated by the electoral college strategies of the two campaigns. Basically I don't get the Kerry campaign strategy. How do they plan to win? Let's go to the map.

The LA Times provides an interactive electoral map for you to test your own ideas. Here's how I have it figured.

Bush wins the following states: AL, AZ, AK, AR, CO, GA, ID, IN, KA, KY, LA, MI, MT, NE, NV, NC, ND, OK, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WY for a basis 221 electoral votes. Bush won all these states in 2000, except Wisconsin which has 10 electoral votes this year.

Kerry wins the following states: CA, CT, DE, DC, HI, IL, IA, ME, MD, MA, MN, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OR, RI, VT, WA, WV for a basis 221 electoral votes. Gore won all these states in 2000 except NH and WV which have 4 and 5 electoral votes respectively.

This leaves 5 states up for grabs: Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and of course Florida. These states are the whole race. In 2000 Bush won Missouri, Ohio and of course, Florida. Gore won Pennsylvania and Michigan. If this pattern continues Bush wins 279/259.

Bush seems to be ahead in Missouri for 11 electoral votes. And in Ohio for 20 electoral votes. And in Florida for 27 electoral votes. Pennsylvania is dead even as of August 26th. Kerry is ahead in Michigan for 17 electoral votes.

This puts Kerry in a very tight situation. If Bush holds MO and FL, and loses Michigan then he need only win either OH or PA, whereas Kerry would need to win all three. Bush could win PA, lose Missouri and Wisconsin and still win.

Let's give Missouri to Bush, Michigan to Kerry and focus on 3 tight states (FL, OH, PA, and MI). If Bush wins Florida (he is currently leading and the state has gone Republican in 3 of the last 4 races) and Kerry holds Pennsylvania then it's a tie at 259 and Ohio is the whole race. But Bush is leading in Ohio as of last week.

However, a 269 tie is a possibility. Bush wins Missouri, Ohio and Florida. Kerry wins PA, Michigan and Wisconsin. This sends the vote to the House where Bush wins. Ouch!

I'm Back Baby!

Took some time off from blogging to do some actual work (the kind they pay me for). But I'm back. I plan to squeeze in a few posts during some boring presentations over the next week or so.

Radical Privacy Violations and Threats

"Anarchists" have hacked the Wedsite of the playful counter-protest group Protest Warriors. They sent a bizarre email screed to every member. What's worse: IndyMedia DC published the list. They also provide a downloadable flat file that includes the names, address, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of RNC delegates in addition to what hotel each one is staying at during their trip to New York City.

Okay. Those are both blatant and probably illegal invasions of privacy. But here are some posts from the DC IndyMedia site that pretty much sum up they're attitudes toward free speech and dissent. (Thanks to the comments board at LGF.)

I am stocked up on gasoline and coke bottles. I have a feeling that it is going to be very "hot" for some of these attending GOP fascists.People, not profits. Down with corporate rule.

(FYI: Charles is over at Little Green Footballs and Glenn is InstaPundit. He has a wife, a daughter and some cats.)

I couldn't think of a better example of what my earlier post addresses. The Left is playing with fire and they will get burned.

Islamists Claim Arson Against Jewish Center in Paris

Remember a few weeks ago when the French political elite pissed all over Sharon for suggesting that French Jews move to Israel because of the rampant Jew hatred in France? Well, Sharon has been proven right.

In one of the worst recent anti-Semitic attacks in France, arsonists destroyed a Jewish center in Paris... An Arabic-language statement posted on an Islamic web site said the attack was carried out by "a group of young mujahedeen" ...

"Without Jews we would be happy," and "The world would be pure if there no more Jews," were written in red ink on the ruins.

After all the Jews move, who will the Islamists attack? Catholics? Just wait until the school starts. This is the first year of the hijab ban. The Muslims, and not just the violent Islamists, will go apeshit. Get ready France. You reap what you sow. This fall will be a bitter harvest.

"They'll Be Fighting in the Streets..."

We've all read about the possibility of violence at the RNC in New York next week. There were stories in Salon and the NYT about these concerns las week. Police are already keeping dozens of "known anarchists" under surveillance. Some members of the moderate Left are worried that any violence like the "Battle of Seattle" in 1999 will backfire and cost the Dems support in the election.

As you can imagine, this doesn't worry me at all. But in a larger sense, I believe that the Left and the so-called "Progressives" should think long and hard about unleashing violence in American streets. (By the way, I hate that term, progressive. Everyone except Luddites are for progress. It is the definition of progress that we are struggling over.)

When discussing the potential for violence the Salon story uses words like frustration, anger, rage, radicalized, and "supercharged emotional situation". Many groups are openly calling for violence, at least against property. Others are refusing to disavow the use of violence.

The Left and it's pet anarchists are playing with fire here. They should remember that they do not have a monopoly on rage or frustration or free-floating hostility. There are people on the Right who are just as angry and frustrated.

The Battle in Seattle was a violent protest against the WTO, an international regulatory body. No one is emotionally invested in the WTO; no one is going to defend it. But violence outside the Republican National Convention, against a president in war time, will arouse passions on the Right that I do not think the protester want to arouse. If there is wide-spread violence in New York, is the Left prepared for Rightist violence in the event Kerry wins? How can they oppose then what they support now?

Is the Left ready for counter-violence against their protesters? Hardass Right-wingers with aluminum baseball bats coming down hard on the vegetarians and professional students? Does America really want political violence in the streets like it's the 1930s? Red shirts and brown shirts battling with clubs and fists? The seeds are being planted. Let's hope the soil is not good.

Iraqi Forces Control Mosque

CNN is reporting that Iraqi National forces simply walked into the Imam Ali Shrine and rounded up 500 tired and hungry members of the Mehdi Army. No shots were fired. Sadr was nowhere to be found.

This was the big showdown? This was the "brewing civil war"? What happened to Sadr's pledge to "fight to the last drop of blood"? It turns that the Medhi Army, not the Iraqi National forces, was the paper tiger. I hope we learn a lesson from this episode: confront and kill the Islamists and they back down.

DU: Troop Would Shoot Americans during Martial Law

Really, I'll stop soon. The Democratic Underground is hypnotic in it's sheer weirdness. The conspiracies within plots within schemes within secret plans for yet more conspiracies. Here's a gem.

"Would our military turn on U.S. citizens at the behest of Bush?

Within the threads of the regarding the announcement of troops coming home from European and Asian bases, there has been some speculation that they are needed to enforce martial law after elections are stolen again in November.

This thread is not to debate the merits of that theory (elections will be stolen) but to discuss if you think the military can be convinced to turn on protesters and other dissidents at home

Note that the idea of a stolen election is a given. Some of the replies are classic DU stuff:

11. You bet your ass some would. And they'd do it with a smile on their rat-like little faces, too. Or did you miss the photos from Abu Ghraib?
19. Many of them would. Some of them are heartless biggots looking for a chance to shoot anyone other than white.
47. Look at Nazi Germany. Many Americans are worse than the nazi.
73. Yes, the army would attack American citizens. It would be a legal order, from the CIC, and they would shoot down citizens - don't doubt it for a second. These are not draftees, these are volunteers - much like the French Foriegn Legion - and have little regard for civilians. They will follow orders, this is something everyone must prepare for.

Wow! Are they acting out fantasies of persecution or do they really believe this stuff?

More DU Nonsense: Civil War 2, Electric Boogaloo

I don't mean to pick on these losers but I can't resist this one. This is the first post of a thread under the General Discussion folder.

I wonder if there was another civil war in this country. Would the French, or perhaps the Germans or Russians, get involved?

I am not advocating a civil war, but I know a lot of people think about the possibility of one someday...

The writer doesn't provide any backup for the last sentence. I for one don't know anyone who contemplates such a thing as a second Civil War. If someone brought this up I'm not sure if I would laugh or just walk away shaking my head.

U.K. Muslims Prepare for "British 9/11"

Internet Haganah posts a story from the Timesonline U.K. (sorry to original requires a paid subscription) about British Muslim leaders meeting to prepare Muslims in the U.K. for a "backlash" after a 9/11-style attack in Great Britain.

"BRITAIN'S most senior Muslim clerics have secretly met to prepare their communities for the aftermath of a September 11-style terrorist attack in Britain. In an acknowledgment of the imminent danger of an Al-Qaeda atrocity, the 13 leading imams have held emergency mashwarahs (consultations) in London over the summer. They have warned Britain's 1.6m Muslims of a likely backlash in the event of an attack and told communities to be vigilant for terrorists in their midst."

Democratic Underground Goes Irrational

The Iraqi national government has ordered the press out of Najaf as the security situation deteriorates and a violent conflict with Sadr's men looks imminent. But this has pushed the irrationalists over at the Democratic Underground into spasms of conspiratorial fantasies (via LGF). Here's a sample:

  • uh oh, getting ready to deploy some WMDs on the Iraqis again?
  • Bush is fixin' to make some more mass graves I think
  • I imagine this to be the Sabra/Shatila of this debacle
  • Negroponte orders Iraqis to attack the Najaf shrine. Iranian Shia (with or without the approval of their government) storm over the border. The US becomes involved "repelling the invasion" and soon Iran and the US are at war. The US threatens massive retaliation if Iran uses it's missiles and then the US then takes out Iranian nuclear and missile sites.
  • its like Fallujah all over again and how very sad it is! Another MOAB? Another 10,000 dead?

Note that these people believe that the U.S. has already used WMDs and filled mass graves in Iraq. This is taken as such an obvious fact that no one bothers to document it much less refute it.

What I get from these posts is a collective projection of their own negative fantasies. They want the U.S. to use WMDs; they want the military to fill mass graves, they want a nuclear strike on Iran so that their hatred can be justified. This is cheap armchair nihilism at it's worst. I'd like to see the DNC or Kerry denounce this site and distance the real Democratic party from these sick, sad little people.

Stop Saying "Holy City"!

Message to ABC, CNN, NPR, NYT and other Big Media outlets: stop with the "Holy City" of Najaf! You never say "Holy City" when referring to Jerusalem, Rome, Kyoto or even Mecca. Najaf is holy only to Shiite Muslims - not to other Muslims, much less Christians, Jews, Hindus or anyone else.

They do this of course to make the U.S. military look bad by implying that we are attacking something "holy". Cut the shit! It's a city like any other. It has an important shrine. So do a lot of cities. Big fucking deal.

Bush to Europe: 'Screw You Guys, We're Going Home'

The U.S. military will send 70,000 troops home from Europe and South Korea. Woo hoo! There's no need for us to be in Europe. They clearly don't want us and it's expensive. Of course lot of "base towns" in Germany will suffer - local pubs, dance clubs and and tittie bars will go under. Tough bratwurst Herr Whine-burger, the "warmongers" are ditching your one horse town. Logically the Germans should celebrate. We'll see if their wallets trump their passions.

On Day 1 NBC's Coverage Already Sucks!

Too much personal bullshit, not enough actual sports. Where's fencing and judo and equestrian and shooting and weightlifting? Cut the little stories of personal triumph and show me the events.

Fear of Female Atheletes

I watched the opening ceremony of the Olympics last night and noticed three things. First, there are too many little countries. Many of the participating nations had less than 1million people. Some had less than 100,000. I'm sorry but they don't count. The aren't competing in any meaningful sense of the word and they are raising the cost of the games.

Second, some of the countries aren't countries. Hong Kong is a city in China. Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory. "Palestine" is an unallocated portion of the Ottoman Empire. NONE of these should have teams. By this logic New England could send a team. Or California. Or Scotland.

Third, not many Islamic countries sent female atheletes. In fact Amir Taheri says it's "the number of Muslim women participating in this year's game is the lowest since 1960." Not only that, TV broadcasts in Egypt and Iran will not show events that display "uncovered parts of the female anatomy."

"Fear of Muslim viewers seeing bare female legs and arms on television is also shared by theologians in several Arab states."

According to various Muslim theologians female sporting events are against "divine morality" and "sign of voyeurism" that produced "sinful consequences."

Read the whole column. It's comic and sad.

"Death to the Jews" on Wall in front of Notre Dame

The second case of anti-Semitic and desecration in as many days. Yesterday "neo-Nazis" vandalized a cemetary in Alsace. Today, it's Paris. Notre Dame, no less. It's only a few hundred feet from city hall in the center of Paris. Is anyone watching? Don't they have cameras or guards or anything?

Polish Poet Czeslaw Milosz Dead at 93

Anti-totalitarian poet, writer and Polish patriot Czeslaw Milosz died Saturday in Krakow. The 1980 Nobel prize winner saw his beloved country pass into the darkness of Communism for more than 4 decades before emerging as a free nation. He spent 39 years in exile. A sad day for Poland.

Al Qaeda Goes Old School with Assassination Plans

Are these guys reading Nicholson Baker?

The Washington Times reports that information found on a laptop in Pakistan indicates that al Qaeda may try to assassinate a U.S. or foreign leader prior. Saudi Arabia and Yemen are top targets. A public message from Bin Laden would be the "trigger".

"We're talking about planning at the screwdriver level," one official said. "It is very detailed."

Yahya Hendi Denies American Open Univerisity Connections

Mr. Hendi and I have exchanged several emails today. He was very polite and seems like a sincere man, as his comments below indicate. He claims that he never studied at American Open University. This is from his email.

"I never did any study with the American Open University. At one point however, I applied and was admitted then decided not to do the program for my own view of the program and the university. I never studied and never will."

Rant Wraith regrets any errors in my previous posts. It is not my intent to report false information about anyone. This was an honest mistake. Several reputable Websites, including Stanford and the Islamic site 2DiscoverIslam, report that Mr Hendi is a candidate at American Open and another Muslim chaplin at Georgetown (Zaheer Arastu) is studying at an institure accredited by American Open. (I suggested that Mr. Hendi contact those Website to correct the error).

I appreciate Mr. Hendi comments and corrections.

Yahya Hendi Comments

Wow! I'm impressed. Imam Yahya Hendi left a comment that I post below in it's entirety. His blog profile is "imam works for bridge building". Here's the link to his homepage.

He seems particularly concerned with his testimony in the Al-Arian case. Please note that I did not post anything about that case. I was concerned with the curriculum at American Open University, where Mr. Hendi is working on his PhD. (For more details please on Al-Arian, see the 9/11 Commission hearings.)

I will forego any further commentary and let the man speak for himself.

Greetings to all who come across this issue,
I pray with peace to all and for all of those who read this.

I know very well that, according to the
Bible, a book from which I learned alot, that only the truthy shall set us free. Also believe that those of true soul must dare to pick up the and ask if what they hear is true.

Not only have I spoken against Ben laden and
like wise, My life has been threatened becasue of my views in support of our militaryn Countrey and nation. I ahve spoken in support of Isreael's existance and survivals. I have lectured on TVs as well as in person as to why Arabs must not hang thier own problems on the USA or the jews. They must fix thier own home before they speak against other. Arabs and Muslims must find the courage to include, love and cater for the Jewish community's needs.

My friends!! I nevr testefied for Al-Arian or against. I was
called upon only as _ AN EXPERT WITNESS" ONLY ON ISLAM AND NOT AL-ARIAN as you are led to think.

I hope that you find it in your heart to look for the truth as only the truth shall set each one of us free.

Thanks,Imam Yahya Hendi

My Checkpoint: Jim's Story

Nicholson Baker’s new novel Checkpoint will be released on Tuesday. The publisher says the "book is set up as a conversation between two old high school buddies. One of them, in despair about the direction the country is going, is convinced he must kill the president; the other tries to talk him out of it." The main character, Jay, discusses murdering President Bush in considerable detail. Slate called it 'assassination porn'. Read the review here. NYT reviews "this scummy little book" here.

In this spirit I offer the entirely fictional monologue of a character I’ll call Jim, in a bar, talking to a nameless companion. Reviews are welcome but please, no fatwas.

I figured the first plane was some kind of accident. These things happen, you know. But the second one was right there on TV and, well, everyone knew that was no fucking accident. I couldn't sleep right for the next week. I’d get up in the middle of the night and watch C-SPAN or stare at the back of the door.

I’d just gone through a bad divorce. Living in a beige apartment. Half my stuff was gone. The rest in boxes. It was a shitty time all around.

I was surprised how well we took it. I mean we all knew it was Muslims, even before the al Qaeda tapes and all the evidence came out. Who else would it be? But I only heard about one guy in Arizona who killed a man for revenge. And the poor bastard wasn’t even a Muslim; he was some other foreign religion that had nothing to do with it. But that was it. One guy. They killed three thousand and one guy lashed out for revenge. I was sort of proud. At the time.

They’d always been there, with the beards. I’d seen some of the women at the grocery and the mall. But I never really saw them. I was dealing with my own shit and they were just part of the background. Another bearded immigrant and his covered wife. Hey, it’s America right. Live and let live.

But afterward I started to notice them. Lots of them. A woman working at Target with her hair covered. Another at fucking Nordstroms. I saw one in my doctor’s office once. In the waiting room.

The one that really got me was when I took a day off, a Tuesday, to run some errands and I went to the grocery like three miles from my house. It was early afternoon and this guy walks in with the full beard and the long robes, like he just came from Kandahar or someplace. Dressed like a Taliban chieftain for Christ’s sake.

Then his wife. It was the first time I saw a women with the nijab, the full face covering. All you could see was her eyes. Hell, it may not have even been a woman. My fucking mouth fell open. Nobody cared. I mean these people were the enemy, right? People dressed like that, in the suburbs, you think they support the separation of church and state? You think they believe in free speech? Democracy? Freedom of religion? You think they are tolerant of goddamn diversity?

Nobody stared or pointed or blinked an eye. Think if you walk into the grocery with your face covered, say, wearing a ski mask ,you’d get the same treatment? Shit, they’d call the cops on you so fast… But if it’s Muslim women, “Well, c’mon in ma’am, there’s a sale on humus.” Fucking shame.

Yeah, give me a Jack and coke. Open the phonebook, man. Look on the internet. It’s not just New York or LA or Detroit. They’re all over the place. Even middle-sized cities have 8, 10, 20 mosques. You think they’re for show? Shit, they’re packed every Friday. I dropped by one across the interstate, maybe 10 or 12 miles from my house. It’s like Little Medina over there for Friday prayers. So many cars they had a cop out front directing traffic. A cop! That’s your tax dollars at work. A cop kept things moving so men who believe Sharia should replace the Constitution don’t get held up in traffic. Fucking rich, huh?

The media harps on diversity and tolerance and the religion of peace. All that shit. But it’s not a fucking coincidence, is it? They catch these guys all the time. Trying to buy missiles or launder money. Or sneak explosives across the border. Plotting to blow up tunnels. It’s never Buddhists or Eskimos, is it?

Don’t give me that Iraq shit. This war started long before Iraq. Anyway, the military can bomb the fuckers overseas but we don’t do dick about the ones already here. They get Constitutional rights and lawyers like they don't hate our way of life. Like they'd grant you those rights if they were in charge. No fucking way, infidel. Don’t kid yourself.

Whenever a bomb goes off or whatever they say, “Don’t blame all of us. Don’t blame the religion. Those are terrorists. We’re peaceful, blah blah blah.” And the media laps it up and repeats it to us 24/7. We buy it too. We take them at their word, from the president on down, like there’s no connection at all. But if some American soldiers accidentally shoots a woman or if some hick guard abuses a prisoner in a war zone then American gets the blame. That’s some shit, huh?

Our goverment just takes the shit these jihad assholes dish out. I mean in Michigan, a mosque announces the call to prayer over loudspeaker. Five times a day. A fucking loudspeaker. How do they think Americans are gonna take this? C'mon, if the government isn't gonna do something, it's only a matter of time until some American do something about this themselves.

One more round then I’m done. Really. Now listen. I think, maybe, we need our own terrorist group. To remove the fifth column here at home. To do all the nasty shit that we don’t want any part of. They would reek havoc and we would say “Hey, they’re a terrorist group. We condemn this cycle of violence, blah blah blah.” Ha! That would be something, wouldn't it?

Hell I’d join them. I was in the Reserves for a while. I can handle a rifle. But it’ll never happen. We’re lazy and ignorant and smacked out on TVand malls and trivia.

But one man, you know, one man could still do a lot. I dunno, I'm just sayin'. One man. Look at me for instance. What do I have to lose? I’m 41. I spend all day sitting in a gray cube, staring at a computer, and hating my job. I come home, drink, get mad at the news and their silly bullshit. “Iran is building a nuclear bomb, but first, new developments in the Michael Jackson case.” Bastards.

Like I said, Shelia had left me before the attack. I don’t have many friends anymore. Not that I blame them. I mean, what’re they gonna say? “Sorry your son died. Sorry you’re marriage fell apart. Sorry you’re life is a bag of crap.” They got they’re own problems. I’m a downer. I bring up bad memories.

No, I’m done. Well, ok, one more if you’re buying.

Think about it. One man, with nothing to lose. Dedicated. All he has is a mission. Sell my house. Cash in the 401(k). Buy a used SUV. Silver, the most popular color. The kind of vehicle that blends in anywhere. Buy a nice rifle. Take your time. Surveillance is essential. Patience is the key. Leave town. First rule: don’t shit where you eat.

These guys, the fanatics, the fifth column, they’re in any city. Just search for ‘masjid’ and you’ll find ‘em.
Wait outside. Take a few pictures. If men and women enter the mosque by different doors, that’s a good sign that the imam or the sheikh or the ayatollah or whatever is a bad guy. You know, not a fan of our way of life.

Like I said patience is the key. Change hotels frequently, maybe sleep in the car once in a while. Don’t draw attention to yourself. Follow the beard for a week or so. Get his routine. And then, when his guard is down, maybe in the grocery store parking lot, POP! He gets to meet the 72 virgins.

Remember John Allen Muhammad and a teenage boy killed 10 people in a 3 week shooting spree. Put the three states on edge. And he was a dumb son of a bitch. No planning. All psychodrama. But someone disciplined. Prepared. You could be a one man terrorist group.

Stay on the road, move from city to city. Hit those jihad motherfuckers where they live. And not just the religious beards. Hit the public leadership, the so-called moderates. The CAIR guys. The Saudi agents who run the North American Islamic Trust. The Holy Land Foundation. Shit, all these 'foundations' are just cover for terror groups. That's not bigotry. It's just a fact.

Hit the spokesmen. The lawyers. The professors. Hit 'em in their driveways. As they leave their precious mosques. In the head or upper chest. Use Glaser Safety Slugs or Flechette Rounds. That would make a statement wouldn’t it? That might send the message that America has some balls, that we’re not all spineless zombies swallowing their bullshit wholesale. That some of us know what they're doing. That enemies hiding behind a "religion of peace" are still enemies. And we'll kill our enemies.

No, no, I’ve had too many. Call me a cab. Really, I’m babbling. I should go home, watch a little porn, sleep it off. It’s all a stupid idea. Drunk talk. What the hell do I know? I’m nobody.

Speaking of Corrupt and Brutal Gerontocracies

Iran is to Islamism what the USSR was to Communism. And like the Soviets Iran is alternately horrifying and comic, a grissly collection of old gray men ruling a rotted out state. On the horrifying side, we are all familiar with their ongoing efforts to build a nuke and their support for global jihad, including Hizbullah.

Now for the comic side. The mullahs have arrested hundreds women for the crime of being insufficiently covered.

Iranian security forces launched raids in cities of central Semnan and northern Gilan provinces, arresting 183 women in recent weeks. ... Some 132 "badly covered" women were picked up in Semnan Province, the daily Sharq reported, adding that 69 of them face trial.

You may think this is silly but to the decrepit fanatics running the system these arrests are "to fight open spectacles of corruption". These women could be jailed for up to two months. The security forces are cracking down all over.

Police have been seen taking scores of teenaged girls from commercial centres, while both police and Islamic militiamen have also reportedly stepped up raids on private parties where they suspect the presence of alcohol or mixed-sex dancing.

Mixed-sex dancing? Would they prefer single-sex dancing? How about some gay lap-dancing or Persian language phone sex?

PA Minister Revolving Doors

Yet more Palestinian Authority ministers have resigned. Both the Justice Minister (no laughing please) and the Planning Minister have submitted their resignations. It's hard to keep up with who's in and who's out. Not that it really matters. The PA was a corrupt and brutal gerontocracy yesterday and it will be a corrupt and brutal gerontocracy tomorrow.

Jihad on CD-ROM

That's right, now all the techno-geek death worshippers can get their porno-jihad fix on a laptop in the comfort and security of their own homes. The 45-minute disc, produced by the serial killer Zarqawi under his Tawhid and Jihad label, is circulating in jihadist circles in Kuwait.

Titled `Winds of Victory,' the recruitment CD showed militant Muslims from Saudi Arabia, Syria, Kuwait, Algeria and Egypt bidding fellow fighters farewell before getting in explosive-laden vehicles; planning attacks on a carpeted floor; and joking around on what looked like a small boat, apparently one of those used in an attack on oil terminals in April.

The "professionally made" disc is filled with explosions, amputated limbs and masked fighters singing about "the promised paradise with the virgin maidens".

It's One War and Always Has Been

Evidence found in Iraq lead to the arrest of the Islamists in Albany NY. The capture of an Al Qaeda figure in Pakistan leads to the arrest of a baker's dozen in Britain. The Islamists were captured with maps and blueprints of targets in South Africa. These arrests are related to the recent terror warnings in NYC and DC. All this in one week in August.

The enemy is global, networked and mobile. The War Against Jihad is a single war against tens of thousands of jihadists on hundreds of battlefields across the globe; a planetary struggle against an anti-modern ideology. But I don't have to tell you, do I?

Kiwi Judeophobia Continues

Ever Wonder What a 10-Kiloton Blast Would Do?

How hasn't? Now you can see create blast maps at NuclearTerror.Org. Enter a zip code, like 20500 for the White House area of DC, and the site generates a map of the predicted damage. Needless to say, it's not pretty.

It's not a nutjob site either. It's the companion site to a new book by the founding dean of of Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government and an Assistant Secretary of Defense in the first Clinton Administration.

Who Will Sit on the "Border Commission"?

Jihadists sneak across the Mexican border and attack a US city with a truck bomb. It doesn't have to be in New York. It could be Houston or New Orleans. A large hotel or an office tower. Say "only" a few hundred or a thousand dead.

Intelligence traces the bombers and the truck across the border. The investigation, the inevitable "Border Commission", reveals our "shocking" lapse in border security; how comically easy it is to drive across the border, to walk across the river; how many tons of unknown material and how many millions of people enter our country illegally every year. The media will be "stunned" by these "revelations." The public will be "appalled" by just how impotent the Border Patrol is. The final report will be thick and well-documented.

Who will we blame? Let's get this out in the open: Illegal Immigration IS Crime. Plain and simple. I blame both parties and every politician sitting in the Congress and the White House. The Republicans turn a blind eye to illegal immigration because it's a boon for certain industries: construction, agri-business, hotels. The Democrats ignore it because they think it strengthens their appeal to Hispanic voters, especially in the west and southwest. Everyone ignores it because illegals work for next to nothing and that keeps prices down. I will blame everyone.

No blood for oil? How about blood for produce? How about American corpses for cheap housing? How about death for discount meat?

Wars of Choice and Wars of Necessity

Robert Kagan deconstructs the big applause line from Kerry's acceptence speech, "I will bring back this nation's time-honored tradition: The United States of America never goes to war because we want to; we only go to war because we have to. That is the standard of our nation."

Kerry's "doctrine of necessity," if seriously intended, would entail a pacifism and an isolationism more thorough than any attempted by a U.S. government since the 1930s. It would rule out all wars fought for humanitarian ends, all interventions to prevent genocide, to defend democracy or even, as in the case of the Persian Gulf War, to uphold international law against aggression. For those are all wars of choice.

We would have never fought in World War One, in the Korean War, etc, etc. We would have fought the Japanese in World War Two but was the invasion of Italy an act of necessity? Did we defend Australia of necessity? Could one argue that the Civil War was a war of choice? After all, Lincoln could have choosen to let the Confederacy secede?

Which is of course the point. The distinction between necessity and choice is in itself a choice that the chief executive has to make. It is not self-evident. Thank God Lincoln saw that as a War Between the State as a war of necessity and no of choice.

Of course Lincoln wasn't a veteran, never "tested under fire," so what did he know.
